Question to student at Spyken Upper Secondary School, 2023:

– How do social norms affect your identity?

– There’s a bit more freedom to behave according to your own ‘niche’. I wear nail polish, for instance, which I probably wouldn’t have been able to do in the past. You can express yourself. You have a bit more wiggle room when it comes to certain things. There are many sub-cultures, you can choose your own groups. But it’s not completely unrestricted – everyone feels social pressure.

‘The debate on politically independent culture has flared up again after local SD [Sweden Democrat] politician prevented drag queens from delivering storytelling sessions for children and objected to non-binary people wearing a Lucia crown.’
