Kulturen is the biggest museum in Skåne, the southernmost province of Sweden, and the second oldest open-air museum in the world. The museum was founded in 1892 by Georg Karlin. He realized that the

old peasant society was slowly disappearing and resolved to rescue buildings, tools, furniture, clothes and other things.

There are now more than thirty buildings, moved and re-erected here in Kulturen to fill two blocks of the city of Lund, showing how people have lived and worked in Sweden through the ages.

Exhibitions at Kulturen

You will also find some fifteen exhibitions about
everything from peasants in Skåne to arts and crafts
from all over the world. Every year there are also
many temporary exhibitions that are very popular.

Weapons and China at Kulturen 2008
The theme at Kulturen 2008 is China in four
different exhibitions; Dragons from China,
China – In the middle of the world, Chinese
puppet theatre and Chinese ink painting.

But 2008 starts with the opening of a
exhibition about weapons - on the 20th
of January at Kulturen. It is a thoughtful
exhibition about the design of death
showing Kulturen´s collection of weapons
from ancient times until this century.

The park, the shop and the restaurant
The park of Kulturen is also worth a visit
- it is an oasis for those who wish to savour
beautiful settings. There is also a playground
in the park which is very popular among
the little ones.

Next door you find the restaurant Kulturkrogen
where it is easy to spend time dining! In our
museum shop you will also find perfect gifts
and beautiful swedish artware to bring home.
